NCH 12 June 2010 concert flier

Glória, Ireland’s first LGBT choir, celebrates its 15th anniversary with a gala concert in Dublin’s National Concert Hall this coming Saturday @ 8pm.  It will be my swansong with the choir, having sung with them for over 10 years.  Hosted by Panti – I wonder will she wear a sequined number this time – it promises to be yet another great evening of camaraderie and song, under the baton of interim musical director Michael Finlay.

José Carreras

Over the years, Glória has sung all over Ireland as well as abroad in London, San Jose, Montreal, Boston and Miami.  In 2005, she sang at Dublin’s Point Theatre [now The O2] with José Carreras!

She has shared the NCH stage previously with the Garda Band and Garda Choir – the first LGBT choir in the world to do such a thing with its national police force – and the London Gay Men’s Chorus.  Like its 10th anniversary concert at the NCH, Glória will take the stage on her own on Saturday. Vivaldi’s ‘Gloria’ featured as the main serious piece in the 2005 concert; this year it will be John Rutter’s ‘Gloria’.

Featuring on the cover of the current issue of GCN, editor Brian Finnegan has also written a feature article about the choir and its origins from a small ad in 1995 in GCN placed by Carole Nelson and Niall Murray.  Like for so many Irish LGBT groups and events, GCN is a vital dimension to publicity for choir concerts, fundraisers etc.

Glória’s search for a new musical director will continue during the summer.
